Methods of application
Flame retarding agents may be applied by padding or spraying. The recommended method or application is padding. Drying may be carried out at normal drying temperatures, drying conditions should always be checked experimentally. When the flame retarding agents are used with polymer dispersions, fluorocarbons and silicones the components are mixed before dilution to the required strength. The agents will withstand the curing temperature required for these other finishes giving rise to a minimal strength loss in the fabric.
The fabric to be treated should be clean and absorbent as the presence of dirt, natural waxes or applied finishes will prevent efficient absorption of the agents.
The add-on required depends on the nature of the fabric and the test method applied to the treated fabric. The following values are given as an indication of level of add-on needed the flammability standard required.

Materials % Dry Add-on
Cotton 10-15%
Cotton/Polyester (70/30) 10-15%
Polyester 20-25%
Rayon 12-15%

It is advisable to determine the add-on required to give satisfactory flammability by a small scale laboratory test before commencing treatment on a large scale.
Our flame retarding agents are not fast to washing or water and the treatment must be renewed after laundering the fabric. The agents treatment however will withstand dry cleaning.
The flame retarding agents are compatible with a wide range of polyvinyl acrylate dispersions suitable for use in single-bath systems for resin-bonded non-woven fabrics based on rayon staple. Our flame retarding agents are also compatible with a number of phenolic, PVDC and PVC copolymer dispersions. In addition, stable single bath systems can be formed from both fluorocarbons and silicones with the flame retarding allowing the application of a combined flame-retardant water repellent finish used for applications involving high humidity atmospheres.
